What is classed as a new electrical installation?
New electrical installations are usually found in newly constructed buildings, which can be new-build houses or brand new commercial properties. In this case a new electrical installation will be the wiring and apparatus which provides light, heat, power and any other specific electrical requirements, such as in a manufacturing unit.
All these wiring and equipment installations – such as for air conditioning or alarm systems – need to be fully compliant with the 18th Edition electrical regulations and other current building regulations. The same applies to new installations in an existing building. So if a building is refurbished or added to, this can sometimes lead to the electrical installation either being re-wired, re-designed or re-installed. This is also classed as a new electrical installation and hence is required to be tested and inspected on a regular basis.
Our testing and inspection services for new electrical installations
As soon as a new electrical installation is used it can start to deteriorate and is prone to potential damage and can therefore present safety hazards. Any new installation should be thoroughly commissioned before it is used, but problems can occur very quickly if the initial design was incorrect. Our testing and inspection services therefore include:
- Identifying if any electrical circuits or equipment are overloaded in the system.
- Locating any potential electric shock risks and fire hazards through our testing procedures.
- Identifying any defective electrical installation work.
- Highlighting any circuits where there is an absence of suitable earthing or bonding.
By carrying out routine continuity, insulation resistance and RCD testing we will be able to identify any issues within a new electrical installation. This will allow us to develop an action plan to rectify all issues to ensure your installation is fully safe and compliant.
